Mitchell's close friend Angela lost her life in a tragic car accident in the year she turned fifteen years old. Mitchell found this incredibly difficult and Angela was the source of inspiration for the song Angel, which appears on her debut album. Her book Chicken Soup of the Preteen Soul and the 7th Heaven episode, Nothing Endures But Change also mentions this incident.
